The Longest Bus Ride Home (Day 17)

Well I actually slept pretty terrible last night, which was unfortunate because it was a long long day of bussing and museums today. We took some group pictures out at the docks (Mallory and I decided to make up a sorority sign because we had to sorority squat so much for the pictures...we were bored obviously).

(Classic squinty-eyed dock pic, totally didn't even try to make it this great)

Our first stop of the day was in Chester which is like an old Roman town I guess..? We just had a few hours to kind of explore the town, so Kim, Kindal and I walked around the city on the old Roman wall. Along the way we found a cute vintagey bookshop which is always fun to look at. Then we found a cute little grocer's and bought some berries for a pound. I love raspberries. Yummm. We also ended up in this little music store and there was this piano-vocal-guitar book that had too many classics to pass up..so that was my splurge purchase of the week. So at that point we still had an hour before we were supposed to be back at the coach. We meandered around town and ended up at a bench by the river just around the corner from the coach park, sitting in the sun for a few minutes..and then we took as long as possible to walk back to the coach. It seems like we spend a lot of time doing lame things (like getting to the bus half an hour early) and our coach driver always seems to see them...so we tried to avoid him by walking all the way around the parking lot. It didn't work.

(The nasty river we hung out by... I was too sick of traveling to take any pictures of Chester... Oops)

After another hour and a half we reached our final educational destination of the week. The first portion was at Ironbridge. Which is a town. But the major landmark is a (wait for it) Iron Bridge. Significant because it was one of the first bridges made out of iron during the industrial revolution. So that's a pretty big deal kind of.

The second portion was the Museum of Iron. There was a wedding going on just outside and there was a good ten minutes when about 20 BYU girls were looking out the window waiting to see the Bride. It happened, the iron was still there when we were done. Both museums were pretty cool, lots of educational stuff that probably would have been exponentially more interesting if my brain hadn't been too exhausted to actually process any of it. But hey, at least I can say that I've been there. Also I had a Magnum bar which is never a bad decision.

The only other stop we made was for dinner, and that was only maybe 40 minutes. I actually stayed awake for the last portion of the coach ride back to London. It's kind of weird that London feels like home now. But I like it. And even though this was a crazy long week and there was so much packed into it, I wouldn't have traded it for the world.
